Like all Expos 20 sections, the Why Shakespeare? section is divided into three units. First, we do a close reading, a detailed analysis of some fairly specific aspect of a single text. Second, we do a comparative paper in which students learn to negotiate multiple texts and contexts, both historical and theoretical. Third, we do a research paper in which students use the library to discover and interpret texts of their own choosing as well as the pertinent scholarly conversations.
